As Toastmasters we are focused on developing our communications and leadership skills. What does that mean in the New Media/Information Age? A rapid rate of adoption of digital devices like such as tablets and smart phones is occurring globally. Equally paced developments in internet technology (broadband internet and 4G) have offered novel methods of communicating and collaborating over long distances. Digital technologies are changing human culture: the ways we interact and exchange ideas. The posts this weekend will focus on communicating virtually.
First we will explore the productivity advantages of using internet video conferencing services such as Skype and Google Video Chat to enhance the Toastmasters experience in a post titled Boosting Toastmasters Club Productivity with Teleconferencing. Next we will consider the effect of new media and the Digital Age on communication in: Speaking Online: Public Speaking in the Social Media Age.
